theBlu is an award-winning VR ocean experience that originally launched in 2016. On December 28, 2022, Wevr released an updated version on Steam featuring refreshed navigation, new locomotion options, and three DLC episodes — Reef Migration, Luminous Abyss, and Hammerhead Cove — all of which released simultaneously on that same date. The base "Whale Encounter" experience was made free-to-play as part of this update. In a Q&A addendum posted on December 31, 2022, the developer reflected on the game's seven-year history and explained the motivation for the refresh: bringing the app to current technical standards and introducing a free-to-play entry point. They also mentioned a new DLC infrastructure "to set up for future mobileVR platforms (coming soon)," but this was a vague technical aside rather than a concrete commitment to new VR content episodes. All three listed DLC episodes are released. There is only one developer news post (from launch), and no subsequent communications have been made since early January 2023. The developer has not announced any additional episodes, expansions, or future content beyond the technical platform mention. The game appears to have launched on Steam as a complete, packaged product — a re-release of a previously finished VR series with all available content included.
