Evaluation

To the Moon launched on September 7, 2012 and has been the foundation of Freebird Games' long-running narrative series. The game itself received a major 16:9 widescreen remaster — developed in partnership with Serenity Forge — which launched free for existing Steam owners on May 28, 2025, followed by a security patch in October 2025. The series remains in active forward motion. The most recent developer post (June 25, 2026) announced that a trailer for "The Last Hour of an Epic To the Moon RPG" — described explicitly as the conclusion of the To the Moon series — would drop the following week, along with additional game information. This post also mentions that the developer has "plans for from now to the end of year," signaling continued activity well into 2026. This significantly advances the previously reported status from July 2025, when the game was confirmed as "well underway" but without a release date or trailer. The series has a strong track record of delivery: Finding Paradise (2017), Impostor Factory (2021), a Beach Episode (September 2024), and a 16:9 remaster of Finding Paradise (October 2025) all demonstrate consistent follow-through over more than a decade. All five DLC items attached to To the Moon's Steam page have been released. The upcoming series finale title is a separate Steam listing, but Freebird continues to post news through this page as the hub for the franchise.

About this game

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.

This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny.

With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.
