Evaluation

Towards Future launched on February 18, 2022 as a free-to-play short RPG (30–40 minutes, two endings), with a cosmetic art/emoji DLC shipping two days later on February 20, 2022. On December 9, 2022, the developer posted a significant announcement: a sequel titled "所向之未来·掌心光" (Towards Future: Palm Light) was officially announced and confirmed to be in development. The developer laid out substantial detail — the sequel would pick up after the original story, feature new maps including a surface area and a new Firefly Shelter, offer at least 2–3 hours of first-playthrough content, and be sold as chapter DLC priced between 6–15 yuan. Two new character designs were shared, and the developer promised a playable demo would be released when ready. On July 17, 2026, the developer returned to Steam with a meaningful update adding English and Japanese localizations and new Chinese voice content to the original game — confirming the studio is still active. However, this post made no mention of the announced sequel. Because the sequel was announced as planned chapter DLC for this game (not a separate title on a separate store page), it represents outstanding content commitments tied to this product. With no demo, no chapter DLC, and no status update on "Palm Light" since December 9, 2022 — and the July 17, 2026 post silent on the matter — the sequel's current development status is genuinely unclear. The studio is demonstrably still active, but whether the sequel remains in development cannot be confirmed from available information.
