TrenchesWIP is a free-to-play Early Access multiplayer shooter that has been on Steam since August 17, 2019. The two-person development team at Big OOF Games shipped four major content updates between July 2020 and January 2021, covering a new map, weapon handling overhauls, artillery, dedicated servers, and a new game mode. In October 2020 they published a roadmap laying out several future update milestones, including cosmetic customization, weapon customization, third-person animations, player progression, and improved bot AI. The last developer communication was posted on August 13, 2021. In that post, the developers were candid about the challenges they were facing: both team members had experienced personal turbulence related to COVID-19 and changes in employment. They shared work-in-progress footage of new character models and described ongoing work on a new movement system, but could not provide any timeline for the next update. They stated they remained committed to the game but acknowledged development had been "turbulent and infrequent." Since that post on August 13, 2021, there has been no further communication from the developer — no patch notes, no status updates, no social media activity. The majority of the features promised in the October 2020 roadmap have not shipped. Given the nearly five-year silence since the last update, compounded by the personal and financial difficulties the developers described, it is currently unclear whether active development is continuing.
