Evaluation

Trombone Champ launched on September 15, 2022 and has been actively developed ever since. The base game has grown substantially through free post-launch additions, more than tripling its original tracklist to over 60 songs. Three paid song pack DLCs (Undertale + Deltarune, Pizza Tower, and Celeste) launched on December 18, 2025, followed by a free content expansion to the Undertale + Deltarune pack on March 19, 2026, which added 7 tracks from the Deltarune Chapters 3+4 soundtrack. The developer's most recent communication was on March 19, 2026 — roughly 6.5 months before today's date of October 8, 2026. In that post, Holy Wow Studios outlined several ongoing priorities: bringing DLC to the Nintendo Switch version, exploring a Switch 2 engine upgrade, improving controller support on PC, and working on prototypes for new games alongside continued Trombone Champ support. The broader timeline shows a developer that has consistently delivered: 5 major content updates, 11 feature patches, and 27 bug fixes across the game's lifetime. The cadence between major content drops has generally ranged from roughly 3 to 9 months. The March 2026 post is now approaching the outer edge of that window, but it explicitly stated there is still "work to do" without indicating any conclusion of development. The developer noted in June 2025 that they were "probably done in terms of significant updates" after completing their roadmap — but this was superseded by the December 2025 DLC launch and the March 2026 content expansion, both of which demonstrated continued meaningful content delivery. The December 2025 post also floated a potential Celeste B-sides pack "at some point in the near future," which has not yet materialized or been ruled out. No statement from the developer has announced the conclusion of content development for the game. The silence since March 19, 2026 is approaching the threshold of concern but does not yet clearly exceed it given the established pattern and the explicit "work to do" framing in that last post.
Evidence
Update 1.30C adds 7 tracks from Deltarune Chapters 3+4 to the Undertale + Deltarune DLC, and the post outlines ongoing work including controller support, Nintendo Switch DLC integration, Switch 2 upgrade exploration, and new game prototyping — while stating 'we still have work to do'

Music

Trombone Champ features over 60 tracks, which include anthems, marches, classical pieces, electronica, folk classics, and more. The game also includes tracks from exciting guest artists. Each track has a unique animated background that moves with the music!

Tromboner Cards

Use the "Toots" you earn from playing songs to purchase sacks of Tromboner Cards. These cards can be used to unlock new tromboners, new trombone colors, and other mysteries!

Controls

Using a mouse, move your arm forward and back (as if you were holding a trombone slide), and the pitch of the note will slide up and down to match! Click or use the keyboard to blow! The sounds your trombone makes are completely controlled by you. The closer you are to the music track, the more points you will earn, but you have the freedom to play anything you want at any time!

Baboons

Nearly every screen in the game, beginning with the main menu, features one or more baboons. You won't believe how many baboons there are in this game! As you discover the secrets of the Trombiverse, their purpose may become clear... but only a true Trombone Champ will uncover their full meaning.
