Evaluation

UTOPIA 9 - A Volatile Vacation is no longer available for purchase on Steam — the store page shows no purchase options. The game launched in full on May 5, 2016, graduating from Early Access. Development activity after launch was relatively modest: a handful of feature patches through late 2016, and then a May 2017 post from developer Whalegun where the two-person team disclosed they had run out of money in October 2016 and were forced to take outside employment, leaving very little time for the game. That May 2017 post candidly stated that "the future of Utopia 9 is uncertain" due to limited financial success, and expressed pride in what was accomplished while suggesting no concrete further development was planned. After that post, the only news activity associated with this game's Steam page came from publisher Untold Tales in 2023, and those posts were promotional announcements for entirely different games (Flame Keeper) that bundled or featured UTOPIA 9 as a giveaway bonus — not developer communications about the game's own content or future. No further updates, patches, or developer statements about UTOPIA 9 itself have been made since May 2017. The game is now delisted and cannot be purchased.
