Evaluation

Venba launched on July 31, 2023 as a self-described "short and sweet" narrative cooking game. After launch, the developer announced and then shipped one major free update — the Cookbook DLC — which arrived on March 13, 2024. This added real-life recipes for every in-game dish, a new in-game radio, and four previously unreleased songs. This represented the one planned post-launch content addition the developer had teased in October 2023. Since the Cookbook shipped, the developer's focus has clearly shifted. A May 30, 2025 post announced that their next game (Game 2) is now in active development with a new publishing partner. The post also hinted at "some exciting Venba news coming soon," but the only subsequent Venba update was a Mac port announced July 28, 2025 — that "exciting news" was almost certainly the Mac release, not new story content. A further hotfix on October 7, 2025 patched a Unity security vulnerability but added no content. There is no unreleased DLC listed on the store, no roadmap or announcement of further Venba content, and the developer has explicitly stated they are now building a new game. The game is complete as of the Cookbook update on March 13, 2024.

Venba is a narrative cooking game about family, love, and loss. Play as Venba, a South Indian immigrant mother connecting with her son through the language of food. It is a short and sweet cinematic experience that you can enjoy in a 1 to 2-hour sitting.

Cook (and learn!) authentic dishes from regional South Indian cuisine

Idlis, dosas, and biriyani! Whether you’re a new or regular enjoyer of South Indian cuisine, there’s something delectable to discover Venba's cooking puzzles. As you piece together a tattered recipe book, cook authentic dishes inspired by real-life cuisines. Once you've cooked them in-game, try cooking them in real life with the brand-new in-game Cookbook!

Discover a heartfelt story of family, love, and loss

As you restore lost recipes, discover the story of a family over the years as they grow and change through a journey of love and loss. Join a mother, father, and their son as they reckon with culture, self-discovery, and acceptance.

Jam to catchy tunes inspired by Tamil music

Move over lo-fi beats! Cook along to Venba's unique original soundtrack, inspired by Tamil music throughout the ages. And when you can't get enough, return to the newly-added in-game radio to listen to the OST on-demand!
