Evaluation

Vertigo 2 launched on March 30, 2023 and has since received two major content updates. The first was the free "Bottomless Update" on November 10, 2023, which added mutators, alternate playable characters, and a level editor. The second was the paid story expansion "Into the Aether," announced on December 5, 2024 and released on April 25, 2025. Notably, the developer explicitly stated in the Into the Aether announcement post (December 5, 2024) that the Bottomless Update had previously been communicated as "the last content update for Vertigo 2," and that Into the Aether itself grew unexpectedly from a short story into a small DLC. The developer was candid about its limited scope — three extra chapters — and framed it as a one-off creative detour rather than the start of an ongoing content cycle. Both DLCs are now fully released (the soundtrack on launch day and Into the Aether on April 25, 2025). There are no unreleased DLC entries on the store, no announced future content, and no developer roadmap pointing to additional expansions. Post-release activity since April 2025 has been limited to a treadmill support patch in September 2025 and a cosmetic April Fools level design update in April 2026 — maintenance and polish work, not content development. With the developer having twice signaled the conclusion of content work (once explicitly before Into the Aether, and once by framing Into the Aether itself as a scope-limited, unplanned addition), and with no outstanding commitments visible, the game is best understood as complete as of the Into the Aether release on April 25, 2025.
Evidence
Vertigo 2: Into the Aether story expansion released on April 25, 2025 — the second and most recent major content release for the game.

About this game

Vertigo 2 is a single-player adventure built from the ground up for VR.

Deep underground in the reaches of Quantum Reactor VII, you awake to finish your journey home. You’ll have to face bizarre alien flora and fauna leaking from other universes - and deadly android security forces whose job is to purge the reactor of all life. Try to determine who to trust as sinister agents lurk just out of sight.

Key features include:

  • Huge, bespoke world design – an incredible range of environments makes Vertigo 2 much more of an adventure than Vertigo 1.
  • Enemy variety – dozens of creatures and robots are waiting to be discovered.
  • Hybrid locomotion – both smooth locomotion and teleportation are viable.
  • State of the art VR weapons – carry an arsenal of 14 weapons, all with unique reload mechanics.
  • Fully voiced characters – a diverse cast brings the many characters of Vertigo 2 to life.
  • Original soundtrack – hours of original songs and scoring.
  • Intense boss fights – Vertigo is notorious for its ambitious boss encounters, and Vertigo 2 brings 10 brand new bosses.
  • Substantial campaign – 18 chapters long, Vertigo 2’s story has many times as much content as Vertigo 1.
