Virtual Battlegrounds

On August 17, 2022, the development team at CyberDream published a farewell post titled "Virtual Battlegrounds Forever," explicitly stating it was a "final update and goodbye." The team acknowledged they had moved on to other projects and would not be returning to Virtual Battlegrounds development. This post included one last patch (version 0.7.4 Hound) covering bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and a tutorial rework — content the team had been sitting on while hoping to return. A final developer-organized play session was announced for that Saturday. This is the clearest possible signal that active development has concluded. The game remains available on Steam and is still flagged as Early Access — it never reached a 1.0 release. The studio did not announce a 1.0 launch or declare the game a finished product; they simply ended development while the game was still in Early Access. This means the game is frozen in an unfinished state: purchasable, but with no further updates, no 1.0 release, and no studio actively working on it.
