Evaluation
War on the Sea launched on February 2, 2021 and has received a consistent pattern of substantial content updates over the years since. Three major updates stand out as clear milestones: Iowa and Essex class ships, new aircraft (Hellcat, Corsair, Helldiver, Judy, B-25C), kamikaze attacks, and 11 new single battle scenarios shipped on July 20, 2022; a comprehensive aircraft flight performance overhaul and strategic bombing system went live on February 26, 2024; and most recently, a major campaign logistics rework — introducing resource costs for resupply, replenishment at sea, and expanded modding support — launched on March 27, 2026. Between these major releases, the developer has also shipped numerous feature patches and bug fixes, including a beta campaign logistics update on December 10, 2025 that preceded the March 2026 live release.
The intervals between the three major releases are approximately 19 months (July 2022 to February 2024) and 13 months (February 2024 to March 2026). As of October 8, 2026 — approximately 6 months after the March 2026 major update — the game is within the historical update window established by those intervals. No statement announcing the end of development has been made, and the developer has shown no signs of going silent, having posted beta and release notes as recently as March 2026.
The only paid DLC is the soundtrack, which was released at launch. All substantive updates have been free. No new DLC or future content has been explicitly announced.
Evidence
Version 1.09a (Improved Campaign Logistics) went live, introducing resource costs for rearming ships, replenishment at sea, expanded task force sizes, and expanded modding support.
Aircraft overhaul and strategic bombing update released as a major live update (version 1.08h5).

About this game
1942: The world is at war
The Japanese Empire expands throughout the Pacific where Allied forces attempt to halt its spread. A desperate struggle for control of the Solomon Islands is now underway.
How will you protect your transports as they deliver troops and supplies in the South Pacific? Will you deploy precious aircraft carriers to provide air cover? Do you screen the area with submarines? Or attempt to lure the enemy navy into a decisive surface engagement?
