Evaluation

World of Horror launched out of Early Access on October 19, 2023, after a long development period during which developer panstasz shipped multiple major content updates. Since launch, that pattern has continued. The major content milestones form a clear, consistent pattern: "The Ceaseless Curse" (December 2, 2021), "Blood Moon" (October 29, 2022), the 1.0 launch with new content (October 19, 2023), and version 1.2 "AS BELOW SO ABOVE" (February 26, 2026). That gives a cadence of major releases roughly every 12–16 months across the full history of the game. The February 26, 2026 update was substantial — it increased the game's size by approximately 20%, adding two new Old Gods, three new playable characters, a brand-new Mountains location, 60 new events, 30 new items, 19 new enemies, a first scenario, a Weird Weather system, a reworked UI, new challenges, cloud saving, Steam achievements, and an expanded modding system. The developer also noted in that post that console porting and localization for v1.2 were still underway, indicating continued active engagement with the product. As of today, October 8, 2026, it has been approximately 7 months since the v1.2 release. Given the historical cadence of major updates arriving roughly every 12–16 months, the game is comfortably within its established update window. The developer has not announced specific future content, but has also made no statement that development is complete.

About this game

The Old Gods are reawakening, clawing their way back into a world that’s spiraling into madness. In hospitals, abandoned classrooms, quiet apartments, and dark forests, strange appearances and unexplainable phenomena test the sanity of residents in Shiokawa, Japan. Is it chaotic retribution, or the machinations of beings beyond our comprehension?

This is WORLD OF HORROR: The end of the world is nigh, and the only solution is to confront the terror reigning over the apocalypse. Navigate this hellish, roguelite reality through turn-based combat and unforgiving choices in this roguelite-style cosmic horror RPG.

Invoke dark rituals, uncover disturbing clues, and solve puzzles across multiple randomized mysteries. Each perplexing case unravels into a series of random encounters with nightmarish figures inspired by the works of horror legends Junji Ito and H.P. Lovecraft.

  • Unveil the fates of 14 unique playable characters, and choose your path through a pool of 20 dreadful investigations.
  • Most mysteries harbor multiple endings - for those that survive long enough.
  • A haunting chiptune soundtrack accentuates the game’s stark 1-bit art style, drawn 100% in MS Paint.
