Evaluation

Zavod is a visual novel in Early Access on Steam, having launched its first episode on February 14, 2025. The developer has been publicly tracking the development of Episode 2 through a series of detailed "Factory Reports" posted to Steam. The most recent update, posted on August 30, 2026 (Factory Report #7), shows meaningful progress: backgrounds and CG artwork are fully complete, music and sound effects are done, the script and editing are finalized, and coding and sprites are each at 70%. Voice acting is at 90% and the English translation is at 70%. The developer also reports that a new programmer, Kawaii Ishaq, has joined the project — directly resolving the staffing concern raised in the April 29, 2026 report, where the previous programmer had gone silent for over a month. The team is now in an active testing phase for half the episode. Despite this positive progress, Zavod's development history reflects the challenges of a small, volunteer-heavy team. Reports from 2025 through early 2026 documented artist departures, a composer joining the military, and a programmer who was unreachable for an extended period. Progress has been slower than expected throughout. These patterns mean that while Episode 2 is clearly advancing and closer to completion than at any prior point, the timeline remains uncertain for a team of this size and structure. The April 2026 report also mentioned a separate side project under the codename "Banya," intended to bridge the wait between Episode 2 and the planned Episode 3 — indicating the developer has a longer-term content vision beyond the immediate release.
Evidence
Factory Report #7 shows Episode 2 is in active development: backgrounds 100%, CG arts 100%, sprites 70%, code 70%, music 100%, sound effects 100%, voice acting 90%, script 100%, English translation 70%. A new programmer has joined and testing has begun on half the episode.

About this game

Plot

Dmitry Morozov is the protagonist and a simple worker who laid down his life on the altar of the factory. It seemed to him that time was lost, but one day it reset its course. The reality in which he found himself is completely different from the previous one, and his reflection in the mirror is young again. What secrets await him on his journey back home? And is there any point in going back there? He doesn't know, but he will definitely try to find out.

Heroines

Anna Koryagina is a strict and demanding master and also a deeply unhappy woman. Her life is made up of work and lonely evenings drinking, but don't underestimate her. Getting under her thumb is a cinch, and she can get into the swing of things.

Anastasia Kolokolchikova is an assembler and the sweetest creature in the world, if you don't dig too deep. She'll help you with a smile and give you a tour of the factory, she'll bury you in the backyard with a smile. Something is definitely wrong with her, but it's a mystery behind seven seals, the key to which is not easy to pick up.

Alexandra Pugacheva is not just a luxurious blonde from a regulatory area, but also the smartest character, contrary to stereotypes. He spends his life on bile, constantly egging on the main character and stealing factory murder. Quarrelsome and cold in communication, but deep down she has a kind and sensual nature that simply lacks attention.

Olga Sokolova is a girl locksmith, determined to fight stereotypes in her profession to the last. She is scary in anger, but even more scary with a slipper. Likes to collect change, doesn't like slackers.

Karelia Vereshchagina is a natural disaster from the design office. She is fickle and irrepressible, because she keeps one terrible secret, which slowly torments her. She is the kind of person who is hard to fall in love with, but who you can't get out of your head.
