Zombie Girl launched on October 13, 2023, and its solo developer was immediately active with frequent patches. A major gameplay update shipped on January 20, 2024 (adding a Defense Mode, weapon reworks, and other improvements), and on June 21, 2024 the developer candidly announced plans for a substantial overhaul aimed at giving the game more narrative depth and character soul. A December 21, 2024 progress preview showed a skill tree, character customization features, and a reworked protagonist model, while noting that main storyline and NPC content was still being worked on.
After that December 2024 post, the developer went silent for an extended period — but on September 29, 2026, they published a direct update to players confirming they had not abandoned the project. In that post, the developer described a "massive, unprecedented update" currently in its final testing phase, with content volume more than three times that of the current game. Specifically announced for this update: brand-new storylines, new NPCs, new gameplay mechanics, five new regions, new systems (including vehicles, companion NPCs, and a leveling system), and numerous detail refinements. The developer described it as "almost like making a brand-new game."
