Evaluation

8Doors: Arum's Afterlife Adventure launched on April 7–8, 2021 as a complete Metroidvania game. In the months following launch, Rootless Studio shipped several patches adding features like cloud save, guardian pets, UI improvements, and controller remapping, and teased upcoming content such as a Boss Rush mode and a monster journal. However, a September 30, 2021 developer update — the last substantive communication from the studio — revealed a change in priorities: they decided to pursue a Nintendo Switch port first and delay the previously teased game content updates, apologizing to players who had been looking forward to them. No Switch release, Boss Rush mode, or any other promised content update was ever publicly announced as having shipped. The two DLC items on the store (an original soundtrack released April 8, 2021, and a digital artbook released September 30, 2021) are both released. The last developer post of any kind was a minor bug fix on June 2, 2022. There have been no developer communications since June 2, 2022 — nearly four years of silence. Given that the post-launch content teases (Boss Rush, journal) were never formally announced as shipping, the Switch port was never confirmed as released, and the developer has been silent for nearly four years with no roadmap or outstanding commitments publicly reaffirmed, the game is best understood as a complete, self-contained product. The content additions that were once teased appear to have been quietly dropped.
Evidence
Developer announced a change in plans: content updates (previously teased) would be delayed in favor of pursuing a Nintendo Switch port first. Apologized to players waiting for updates and promised to return with a dev letter soon.
