On November 3, 2023, the developer posted a thank-you message confirming that Abscission had exceeded expectations and announcing they were already working on a second game (subsequently revealed to be Carnival). This message signals a clear creative pivot away from Abscission rather than any intention to expand it. All subsequent news posts — including October 2024 demo updates — relate exclusively to the new game, Carnival, not to any new content for Abscission.

Detective Will Stanhope had been a rising star in the Ashfield Police Department until a terrifying case in 1986 almost broke him. He tranferred to vice, filling his days with small-time drug busts in the hope that there were better days ahead, However, A grisly murder soon drags him back to his darkest hour, back to where his life began to unravel... Stanhope will sometimes be presented with alternative ways to handle a conversation, based on four temperaments:
- Melancholic (detail oriented)
- Phlegmatic (calm)
- Sanguine (sociable)
- Choleric (driven)
There is no one approach that works best for all conversations, and Stanhope will need to use all of them in order to be the best he can be.
