Evaluation

Aground launched out of Early Access on April 17, 2020 and received a final major post-launch update — the Hybrid Path — on September 7, 2020. In that update post, the developer explicitly stated: "This is our last planned major update for Aground, at least for now." A follow-up developer status post on October 21, 2021 confirmed the team had moved on to new projects (Aground Zero and Stardander School for Witches), describing the period after Aground's "launch and final post-launch updates" as a time of deciding what to do next. This confirms the Hybrid Path was indeed the conclusion of Aground's content development. Since then, the developer has continued light maintenance on Aground — adding language translations (Chinese in September 2024, Spanish in November 2024), fixing a crash bug (October 2024), and releasing a minor Backer Items DLC in April 2023 — but none of these represent new story or gameplay content. The most recent developer news (May 2026) is an announcement about an entirely new game, Witherspring Wilds, with no mention of new Aground content. Both DLC items listed are released, and neither represents unshipped story or gameplay content. The game's content has been complete since September 7, 2020.
Evidence
Developer post-mortem confirms the team moved on after Aground's 'launch and final post-launch updates,' now focused on two new games (Aground Zero and Stardander School for Witches).

About this game

Survival is only the beginning. The only way for humanity to have a future is to return to the stars and confront them. But, it will require a lot of ingenuity and help to recover everything that was lost, and even that might not be enough...

Aground is a Mining/Crafting RPG, where there is an overarching goal, story and reason to craft and build. As you progress, you will meet new NPCs, unlock new technology, and maybe magic too. Will you be able to raise dragons? Launch into space? The sky is literally not the limit. Beneath its simple exterior, Aground hides a lot of depth and surprises that will keep you wondering “what’s next?”
