ALONE IN SPACE launched on February 22, 2016 as a self-contained first-person sci-fi adventure game with a complete narrative from beginning to end. After launch, Butterflyware released a series of updates throughout 2016: a hotfix in February, a bug and controller fix in March, a substantial content update adding new puzzles, level design changes, and additional story logs in June, a Mac port in July, a Linux port in August, and finally German and Russian language support in December 2016. The last developer communication of any kind was that December 15, 2016 language update. There have been no posts, patches, or announcements from the developer since then. The store description presents the game as a complete, self-contained story experience with no mention of DLC, expansions, or ongoing content. No unreleased DLC exists on the store listing. Given the nearly decade-long silence since December 15, 2016, and the nature of the game as a finished narrative product, the game is complete.

About this game

ALONE IN SPACE is a first person adventure.

Story

The story centers upon Alex, an employee of an intergalactic corporation in the field of terraforming new worlds. He works 42 light years from Earth on a planet called Miranda. The planet is in the process of terraformation - deliberately modifying the atmosphere, temperature, and topography to be similar to the environment of Earth.
Alex now finds himself alone on the partially terraformed planet Miranda. Alex must find a way to survive the planet’s geologically unstable environment and solve the mystery of the crew’s disappearance before Miranda becomes his own tomb. Why did the terraforming process fail? What happened to the crew and where are they? Why is Alex supposedly the lone survivor on the base?
