Obduction launched on August 24, 2016 as a complete puzzle-adventure game from Cyan, the studio behind Myst. After launch, Cyan continued to refine and improve the game through a series of updates: adding Mac support on March 30, 2017; introducing VR motion controls on March 22, 2017; shipping engine upgrades and stability improvements throughout 2017–2019; and releasing version 1.7.0 on March 15, 2018, which added extra explorable areas that filled in more of the story. The most recent patch was a minor bug fix on September 1, 2021, addressing a startup crash on specific hardware.
Both available DLC items — the Original Soundtrack and the Digital Art Book — have been released. No unreleased DLC is listed on the store, and Cyan has made no announcements of future content for Obduction. The developer's attention has since moved to their next title, Firmament, which launched on May 18, 2023. There have been no developer communications about Obduction since the September 2021 maintenance patch, and no indication that any further updates are planned. Obduction launched as a self-contained story-driven experience and is complete.
Evidence
