Evaluation

Apex Point has been in Early Access since March 4, 2023, built in Unity 3D. In October 2023, the developer announced a full remake of the game in Unreal Engine 5, promising that existing owners would not need to repurchase it. Since then, the studio has been primarily focused on the UE5 rebuild rather than the current Unity version. By February 2025, the original Unity developer (Moh) publicly stepped away from the Unreal team, noting he could not adapt to the new engine quickly enough. A separate post from another team member around the same time explained the studio was in a financially difficult situation, with most resources going toward the UE5 development. The team clarified that the Unity version would no longer receive new content — only occasional small updates from a former member working independently. In June 2025, the game was renamed to "Apex Point: Prologue" on Steam to make room for a new store page being prepared for the UE5 version. A small patch (V0.04) shipped on June 21, 2025, focused on graphics and bug fixes, but the developer noted explicitly this had nothing to do with the UE5 progress. In August 2025, the studio announced a partnership with Dynamic Map Platform (DMP), a Japanese precision mapping data provider, to bring real-world road data into the UE5 version. In October 2025, the studio also confirmed they were finishing a mobile game project (CRASHED!) intended to help fund Apex Point's ongoing development, and reiterated that the current Unity build would be removed from purchase by 2026, though existing owners would keep access and automatically receive the UE5 version. In December 2025, the team shared an early in-engine preview of Daikoku Futo (a real Tokyo location) built using DMP's laser-scan data — the first tangible visual progress on the UE5 version. On March 4, 2026, the studio published a public roadmap for Apex Point UE5, outlining the planned content for the first major release package. However, they deliberately withheld release dates to avoid pressure, and stated that the budget required to develop the UE5 version comfortably was still not secured. They noted the next immediate priority was finalizing CRASHED!, after which the full team would return to Apex Point development. The situation is one of clear ongoing intent and meaningful progress signals, but also genuine financial uncertainty. The studio has been transparent about its struggles, and the core promise — a full UE5 rebuild delivered to existing owners — remains unfulfilled and without a committed timeline.
Evidence
Public roadmap for Apex Point UE5 released, outlining planned content for the first package. Developer deliberately withheld dates and stated the budget needed to proceed comfortably is still missing. Studio plans to finish mobile project CRASHED! first, then return 100% to Apex Point.
