Evaluation

Arcane Worlds entered Steam Early Access on January 28, 2014 and has never graduated to a full 1.0 release. The developer, a solo developer operating under Ranmantaru Games, published updates steadily — though sometimes with long gaps — through December 21, 2020 (Update 0.46). That post ended with a note that the developer was taking a couple of weeks off for the holidays. In the lead-up to that final update, the developer had been doing significant foundational work: a major code rewrite in June 2020 was explicitly described as preparation for multiplayer, and world sizes were doubled in July 2020 with the same goal in mind. Multiplayer was clearly a planned and anticipated milestone that would have represented a substantial step toward completion. However, no update of any kind has been published since December 21, 2020. The developer has not explained the silence, announced a hiatus, or indicated the project is cancelled. Given that the game remains in Early Access with undelivered promises (multiplayer in particular), and that more than five years have passed since the last communication, the development status is deeply uncertain. The game is still purchasable on Steam.
