Evaluation
Battlefield 2042 launched on November 19, 2021 and ran a seasonal content model through Season 7. In July 2024, DICE explicitly confirmed the game would continue receiving updates after the seasonal model ended, transitioning to a model of regular game balance updates, quality-of-life improvements, Portal highlights, rotating events, and new "Vault Drops" (NEWS-19). Feature patches continued through at least March 2025 (Update 8.6.0), and Update 9.2.0 shipped in August 2025, explicitly framed as part of the road to Battlefield 6's launch.
Battlefield 6 — the next game in the franchise — officially launched on October 10, 2025 (NEWS-3). The news feed for this Steam listing now includes Battlefield 6 content, including Season 3 (REDSEC), which launched on May 13, 2026 with a new map (Railway to Golmud) and a Ranked Battle Royale mode (NEWS-1). The developer has not announced an end to support for Battlefield 2042 or the broader live service it now shares with Battlefield 6 content. Both DLC items in the store listing have been released, and no unreleased DLC is listed.
Evidence
REDSEC Season 3 launches for the Battlefield live service with the largest map yet, a Ranked Battle Royale mode, new weapons, and attachments via a Battle Pass.
Update 9.2.0 adds new weapons, vehicles, the returning Iwo Jima map, and a free Battle Pass with exclusive Battlefield 6 rewards, framed as the bridge to Battlefield 6's launch.
