Bonsai launched on February 18, 2016. The developer posted two feature updates in the months following launch: a content patch on February 29, 2016 adding a new tree species (Birch) and a watering mechanic, and a graphics/cloud saves improvement patch on August 26, 2016. Both posts expressed enthusiasm for player feedback and a desire to keep improving the game, but no specific future content was ever announced or committed to. The last developer communication was on August 26, 2016, nearly a decade ago, with no roadmaps, DLC announcements, or further posts of any kind. The store description makes no mention of planned updates or future content. The game shipped as a self-contained experience and has received no developer communication since August 2016, indicating it has long since reached its final state.

Each tree is unique and procedurally generated to be as authentic and realistic as possible. Grow an unlimited number of tree-friends using different strategies and masterfully sculpt their shapes. Be aggressive and hack your tree down or gently guide it each step of the way, how you tend to your tree is up to you. Since every tree and every species is unique, each play through will be different from the last!
