Chicken Invaders 5 launched on March 13, 2015 and received two DLC packs (Halloween Edition on October 1, 2015 and Christmas Edition on November 29, 2016). On January 9, 2025, InterAction studios released a major free overhaul called the "Episode" update — a fundamental rework of the game featuring remastered Full HD graphics, a new engine, reworked weapons, endless mode, new skill levels, built-in seasonal content, and features back-ported from Chicken Invaders Universe. Since that overhaul, the developer has continued releasing feature patches at a consistent pace: loading screen and letterboxing options on January 16, 2025; two-player local co-op and Steam achievements on February 20, 2025; accessibility settings and cheat unlockables on August 12, 2025; and most recently, full multiplayer support for the Episode format on September 26, 2026. The January 2025 update also noted that translation work is "still ongoing" with further improvements expected in future updates. The developer has shown no signs of winding down and remains actively engaged with the Episode format.

In this episode, the chickens have hatched a devious plan to block out sunlight and freeze Earth to death. It's up to you to travel around the galaxy in order to piece together an ancient artifact and (quite literally) save the day.

and lingering feathers still smolder in interplanetary space,
I ease up on the trigger and wipe the sweat from my brow.

Saving the world sure works up an appetite.

I think I'll have the spicy chicken wings tonight.
Or perhaps their galaxy-renowned chicken pie?
Ah, the choices of a hero are never easy.
Suddenly, I am yanked back to reality by the whine
of my trusty spaceship's automated warning system.
Why are all my dashboard lights flashing red?
Why has the Earth darkened so?
And why does it all have to happen just as I'm about to eat?
Looks like tonight's dinner will have to wait...
