Evaluation
Circle Empires Rivals launched on April 15, 2020 and received its one paid DLC expansion, Forces of Nature, on June 11, 2020. Following that, the developer shipped several quality-of-life and feature patches through late 2020, and performed a backend infrastructure update in January 2023 to keep multiplayer functional after a server provider shutdown. Both DLC entries in the game's store listing — the soundtrack and Forces of Nature — have been released.
The developer's focus has since moved on entirely. In November 2024, Luminous announced Circle Empires 2 as a full sequel, and that game launched on February 10, 2026. The announcement post for CE2 described it as "the next chapter of the Circle Empires series," with the developer noting they rebuilt the game from the ground up with new core systems. There is no indication of any further content planned for Circle Empires Rivals — the studio's attention and communications are now directed at the sequel.
No additional DLC, expansions, or updates have been announced for Circle Empires Rivals, and the last substantive developer communication about the game itself (beyond infrastructure maintenance) dates to 2020. The game appears to have reached its final content state with the release of the Forces of Nature DLC on June 11, 2020.
