Evaluation
Clash of the Monsters launched on April 13, 2016 as a free-to-play 3D fighting game featuring eight classic horror characters. In the weeks following launch, the developer (Cadence Games) was very active, releasing multiple patches addressing balance issues, bugs, and adding new features like Training Mode and a new combat stage. On December 31, 2016, the game received its one and only major content update — version 1.7, which added a VR mode — accompanied by a promise that "additional characters and stages will be added" and that the game "will continue to be updated throughout 2017."
The store description still states that "many other characters are being actively worked on and will be released in content updates over time," indicating the developer's original intent to expand the roster. On October 3, 2017, the developer posted an announcement saying a "Monster Sized Update" was coming "within the week" and that the game had "undergone some very exciting changes." That post is the last official communication from Cadence Games. The promised update never materialized in the game's news feed, and there have been no developer posts of any kind since October 3, 2017 — nearly nine years ago.
The store page's promise of ongoing character additions remains unfulfilled, and the developer has been completely silent since October 2017. The October 2017 announcement raised expectations of imminent new content that never arrived, and no explanation has ever been given for the silence.
