Cold Space launched on December 8, 2017 and received a series of updates through early 2018, including new game modes, maps, bot improvements, and platform support. The last major content addition was the Saturn map in April 2018.
On April 14, 2020, the developer — Dmitri Labadin — posted a farewell message explicitly stating that he no longer has the time to develop Cold Space and is moving on to other projects. As part of this transition, he made the game free-to-play, switched from dedicated servers to a listen-host model to eliminate ongoing server costs, and added one final level called "Heaven." He acknowledged that he might occasionally work on a sequel (Cold Space 2) but made clear this game is no longer being actively developed. This is the last recorded communication from the developer.
The game is complete. No further content has been announced, no unreleased DLC exists, and the developer's own words confirm that development has concluded.
