Contraband Police launched on March 8, 2023 and has received consistent post-launch updates ever since, including major free content updates, feature patches, and a console port released November 7, 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. On January 30, 2025, the developer officially announced a paid story DLC called "Crimson Fall," listing it on the Steam store. The DLC remains unreleased with no set release date. Development updates have been shared regularly: on December 17, 2025, the developer posted a video showing the DLC's locations, story, and new mechanics; on May 28, 2026, they confirmed the project had "exceeded their boldest expectations" and was "moving forward at full speed," while also detailing a planned cooperative mode; and most recently on August 13, 2026, they shared progress including completed character models (female characters, enemies, and story characters), the results of a motion capture session capturing over 180 animations, and the completion of English voice recording for over 1,600 lines of dialogue in New York. The developer also noted English dubbing will cover both the base game and the upcoming DLC. This is an active, ongoing development effort. The Crimson Fall DLC is clearly in late-stage production, but the developer has not announced a release date and has not indicated development is winding down.

About this game

The year is 1981, and as a young officer trainee, you are assigned to work at a border post in the mountainous region of Karikatka. Entry into the Acarist People's Republic is strictly regulated by the party and your every move is monitored! The situation at the border escalates when your comrade is killed during one of the interventions...

Document control

Every visitor must have a set of valid documents. Even the slightest discrepancy means refusal of entry. Over time, the number of documents will increase and errors will be more difficult to detect.

Smuggling detection

Our intelligence regularly provides information about suspicious drivers. Search their vehicles using a UV flashlight and then use the appropriate tools to extract the smuggled goods. No amount of contraband should cross the border!

Shootouts

In some situations you will be forced to use firearms. Your station is a constant target for Oberankov's gang attacks, and every away mission carries the risk of a clash with the enemy.

Police chases

Desperate smugglers may attempt to escape from the control zone. It is your duty to stop and arrest them! Buy and upgrade police cars to improve the effectiveness of your pursuit.

Post management

Upgrade your police station to increase its defenses and improve subsequent inspections. However, keep in mind the rising cost of maintaining your station. Successful inspections, foiled smuggling and successful interventions are a few ways to earn cash.

Special assignments

Always be ready to intervene in an emergency. Solve crime puzzles, support your comrades and thwart the Blood Fist rebels. Make decisions that will determine the future of Acaristan.
