Evaluation

Dark Pals: The 1st Floor launched on May 1, 2026 as the first episode of a planned mascot horror series. The store's DLC list includes "Dark Pals: The 2nd Floor" as an unreleased entry with no release date — concrete evidence that a follow-up content installment has been formally listed on the store and is coming. The developer has been consistently active and vocal about future plans. A roadmap post from May 14, 2026 outlined upcoming updates and encouraged players to "actually buy the game so we can make Episode 2." Update 1.2 shipped on June 1, 2026 with new content (an Omeletteman-themed minigame). The announcement originally captured in the previous evaluation (from June 2026 and September 2026) reinforced the series framing, with the developer repeatedly referencing The 2nd Floor as a goal. Most recently, on October 1, 2026 (today), the developer posted a teaser telling players to tune into the "28 Games Later: A Horror Showcase" for "an important announcement" — strongly suggesting a reveal related to The 2nd Floor or other upcoming content is imminent. All released DLC (soundtrack, artbook, and desktop companions) shipped in May–June 2026. The one remaining listed DLC — The 2nd Floor — has not yet been released. The game is the first chapter of a series, and more is clearly on the way.

About this game

Step into Dark Pals’ abandoned children’s mental health facility. Once bright, cheerful, and welcoming, it now stands warped by time, neglect, and forgotten memories. Armed with your Ink Blaster, you’ll explore unsettling spaces, solve environmental and logic-based puzzles, and evade the facility’s disturbing mascots.

But the more you explore, the clearer it becomes: this place knows you.

Do you remember?

The facility is home to a cast of colourful yet horrifying mascots, each hiding a darker purpose. From Chompy Chasey, a dog with a comically large head and deadly teeth, to other forgotten figures, such as Binky Drinky, lurking in the shadows of these forgotten halls.

Progression isn’t just about escaping, it’s about perception. Using your toy paint gun, you’ll be solving puzzles that play with your expectations and sense of reality. Rooms may change their layout, you may have to put your morals and sense of self-preservation aside, and you need to keep your wits about you if you want to survive.

What begins as a cheerful lobby slowly reveals something far more sinister. Catchy, irritating tunes echo through empty halls. Bright colours mask unsettling truths. Every puzzle and encounter draws you closer to the truth about who you really are, and why this place still haunts you.
