Evaluation

Death Must Die is an Early Access roguelite that has been steadily growing since its November 2023 launch. The developer has shipped three major Act updates: Act II (The Endless Desert, April 20, 2024), the Procedural Horde Patch (October 10, 2024), and Act III (The Darkmoor, April 25, 2025), along with regular feature and balance patches. On November 21, 2025, the developer published a detailed roadmap post outlining Act 4, which was originally planned for mid-to-late 2026. That planned window has now passed, and on August 17, 2026 — just six days before today's assessment — the developer posted a substantial development update. In it, they confirmed the game is still in active development, acknowledged the delay, and shared detailed progress across multiple systems: a completely rebuilt god blessing system, new per-skill upgrade trees, extensive new character animations for every hero, two new characters (Necromancer and Shaman) nearing completion, new enemy types, and an ongoing environment overhaul. The developer noted Act 4 will "most likely spill into early 2027." They also reported expanding the in-house team to five members (three artists, two programmers), indicating the studio is stable and committed to shipping this update. The developer is actively communicating, the studio is healthy, and Act 4 remains a firmly announced and substantially in-progress major update.

Yet this time, an unsung higher power had chosen to back our heroes in their quest. Toss a coin in my hat here traveler, if you wish to hear The Saga of Death's Demise."
~The Bard
