Defunct launched on January 29, 2016 as a complete, self-contained adventure game. Post-launch developer activity was limited to bug fixes, speedrunning community patches, and a language expansion update in December 2017 tied to the console (PS4/Xbox One) release announcement. The only paid DLC ever released was a soundtrack pack on February 1, 2016, which is already available. The last developer communication was a bug fix post on February 12, 2018, after which the studio went completely silent. There has been no roadmap, no announced future content, no unreleased DLC, and no developer statement about continued development. The game shipped as a finished product with a defined set of levels and features, and no post-launch content cycle was ever established beyond maintenance patches. All content has been delivered.

Defunct is an indie adventure game with a focus on flow, speed and an engaging world. You are a broken robot that accidentally falls out of a giant cargo ship onto a post-human Earth, now inhabited by robots. You have to get back to your ship before it’s too late!
You are equipped with a Gravitize engine. It is used to create a separate gravity around yourself; this is the main source of your speed. Use this in downhills to accelerate. But be careful, using it uphill will slow you down. In addition to this the world is full of different speed boosts such as Enerjuice, which you can pick up and use to go faster.
These tools enable you to drive through the world, meet strange robots, fly through junkyards and boost your way back to your ship.
