Descenders launched on May 7, 2019 and has been receiving major free content updates ever since. The developer history shows a consistent pattern of substantial updates: the RageSquid Riot Tour (December 12, 2024), Race Mode (July 21, 2025), the Big Air Compound Update with new maps and a new bike type (December 1, 2025), Career Mode (February 12, 2026), and most recently the Community Gear Update (August 3, 2026), which added two new bike parks, community-designed cosmetics, a White Lux set, and a new stat tracker. The most recent developer communication was an August 14, 2026 post, just one month before today's date (September 15, 2026). The game has received six identified major content drops since launch, establishing a clear pattern of ongoing support. The developers have not indicated that development of Descenders is wrapping up — on the contrary, they are actively shipping content and communicating with the community. The February 2026 Career Mode post also listed additional planned features (Spectate Mode, Multiplayer Custom Session Career Mode, Crew Members for Career Mode, and a Grand Tour re-imagining), some of which may still be in progress. Descenders Next (the spiritual successor) is in Early Access and being developed in parallel, but the original Descenders continues to receive its own independent updates.
