Evaluation
Distant Kingdoms entered Steam Early Access on May 5, 2021 as a fantasy city-builder from Orthrus Studios. The team shipped several updates during the summer of 2021, including Update 1 (June 24, 2021) and Update 1.5 (July 30, 2021), and had publicly outlined plans for a major Update 2 focused on overhauling the adventuring and exploration systems.
However, on September 8, 2021 — just four months after launch — publisher Kasedo Games posted an official statement confirming that Orthrus Studios had ceased trading and was unable to continue development. The post acknowledged that no ongoing support would be available for the foreseeable future and that discussions about the game's future were constrained by legal commitments. No follow-up post was ever made, and no resolution to the studio closure was communicated.
The game is no longer available for purchase on Steam — there are no active purchase options. Development ended with the studio closure, and the planned Update 2 and remaining Early Access roadmap were never delivered.
