Folk Tale has been in Steam Early Access since its initial listing and has never graduated to a full 1.0 release. The developer, Games Foundry, was actively publishing updates through early 2017, with the last recorded communication being experimental patch 0.5.3.4 on March 31, 2017. After that date, all developer activity stopped entirely — no patch notes, no announcements, no roadmap updates, and no statement about the game's future.
The game is no longer purchasable on Steam, despite still being listed. This combination — Early Access status, no purchase options, and over eight years of developer silence — strongly suggests development has quietly halted without any formal announcement. The developer never declared the game complete, never released a 1.0 version, and never communicated why updates stopped.
The store page still references a development roadmap on the developer's website, but given the years of silence, there is no evidence this roadmap is being pursued. Anyone interested in this game should be aware that it appears to be an abandoned Early Access project with no confirmed path to completion.

Folk Tale is a fantasy village builder ARPG game in which you lead a ragtag band of peasants in growing a thriving market town, while dastardly minions plot your downfall! Recruit heroes and head out into the wilds to fight back against evil. Or, you know, to get sweet sweet loot. Either or.
Players are comparing elements of gameplay with Warcraft 3, The Settlers, Banished, The Guild 2, Majesty 2 and Black and White 2. Folk Tale is not a pure play role-playing game such as Pillars Of Eternity, and adopts more of a MOBA approach to hero abilities than a CRPG. Nor is it an RTS game (although some of the controls are similar).
