Evaluation

Don't Sink launched into full 1.0 release on April 13, 2018, after a period of pre-release development. At launch, the developer expressed intentions to continue adding content — console ports, more quests, a mod system, and Steam Workshop support were all mentioned as goals. The game then received two post-launch updates in May 2018: a substantial content patch on May 18 (new quests, islands, famous captains) and a follow-up on May 19 adding more islands, crew, and features. That May 19 update is the last content update on record. The only DLC ever released is the game's original soundtrack, which shipped on April 18, 2018 and is the sole item in the DLC list. The developer's next major communication was a July 2018 post announcing a Kickstarter for an entirely new game, Duke of Defense, with a note that the team was also working on console releases for Don't Sink. By April 2019, Duke of Defense launched, and the post explicitly framed it as what came after Don't Sink — with no mention of returning to further develop Don't Sink. There have been no news posts, patches, or developer communications about Don't Sink since mid-2019 at the latest. The promised console ports, mod tools, and Steam Workshop integration were never publicly delivered or re-confirmed. Given that developer attention visibly shifted to a new title by mid-2018, all post-launch content activity for Don't Sink concluded by May 19, 2018, and there has been complete silence on the game for over seven years, the game is best understood as a complete, finished product with no further content activity.
Evidence
Developer launched Duke of Defense and reflected on lessons learned from Don't Sink, framing it as a previous chapter. No mention of further Don't Sink development.

About this game

A Sandbox-Adventure-Pirate-RPG that takes inspiration from Pirates of the Caribbean (2003 video game), FTL: Faster Than Light, and Sid Meier's Pirates but makes certain to stand out on its own.

  • Explore a massive world with unique islands and landscapes. Discuss rumors and discover the origins of each island by talking to the people that live there
  • Expect the unexpected when at sea. Events you may be unprepared for may occur such as a foodborne illness among your crew. You'll need to have access to the right supplies and have the experience to keep your ship afloat
  • A casual but real challenge - While simple to pickup and understand, there are numerous events that only an experienced swashbuckler will be prepared for. This makes the game more satisfying for long term pirates
  • Thoughtfully executed cutscenes that help to bring the world to life as well as reward pirates that explore

  • Sailing between islands is necessary to expand your control over the world and to increase your reputation
  • Tending to the morale, hunger, and thirst of your crew will require you to maintain a supply of food/water and consider whether or not rationing food is required during long journeys
  • Governing islands you've conquered is a difficult responsibility as you will need to solve economic issues before they get out of hand
  • Purchase larger ships as you fight your way through the sea. Famously powerful vessels such as the Galleon and Man of War are but a few of the available ships

Bonus features

  • Community translations and a translation tool that simplifies the process for contributors
  • Unique leaderboard system that tracks your overall career as a pirate across multiple saves
  • Quick access to developers for easy discussion/suggestions
  • Save compatibility between updates
