Evaluation

The Caribbean Sail launched on September 19, 2017 and received two major free expansions over its development life: the Route Planning Expansion (June 8, 2018) and the Fantasy Toggle expansion (June 17, 2020). On January 23, 2022, the developer posted an explicit statement titled "V1.7.1.5 - Final Patch," declaring the end of content development for the game. In that post, the developer stated it was time to "move on to new waters" and described the patch as the final one, while outlining plans to transition to a new title (Captain Blacksword). Subsequent posts from January and April 2023 confirmed the developer's full focus had shifted to Captain Blacksword, further reinforcing that The Caribbean Sail's development was concluded. The September 19, 2025 post announcing "The Deck of Sailors" — a physical card deck celebrating the game's 8th anniversary — also mentioned a silent in-game patch adding a hidden secret tied to the physical deck. While this represents a very minor touch to the game, it does not constitute a new content development cycle; it is a one-off addition accompanying a merchandise launch, made over three years after the developer's declared final patch. No future game updates or content have been announced since. The only DLC listed is the soundtrack, which was released on August 11, 2020. No unreleased DLC exists. The game is complete.

About this game

Set sail across the Atlantic with your best friend, food. Food will keep you alive and food will keep you well- you get food by throwing harpoons at fish and turtles. Then one day BAM! The RNG screws you over and throws a pirate ship at you and you're forced to fight and defend your food!

The next thing you know, Johnny Macguffin is dying from an infected battle wound and you're amputating his leg to save his life- then you realize everyone is starving because Marvin Buttercup ate all the food and you're out of harpoons, on a raft, 2,000 miles from land, and it's raining.

The story is yours and unique every playthrough!
