Evaluation

Pixel Piracy launched in July 2014 and received periodic updates over the years. In early 2023, the developer (a solo dev, Vitali Kirpu) returned to the game in earnest, publishing a roadmap on February 10, 2023, releasing the Shrimp Legacy supporter DLC on February 13, 2023, and shipping a series of patches and content updates through spring 2023 — including the 1.2.21 update on March 24, 2023, which added new locations and NPCs. On November 9, 2023, the developer published a direct statement [NEWS-3] explaining that he had completed his development objective from Spring 2023, had attempted further work through summer, but burned out and could no longer continue. He stated he didn't know when he would work on Pixel Piracy again, and described the game as being "in a good state now — it's the best version of Pixel Piracy." While he left open the vague possibility of "a few more updates one day," he signed off with "goodbye for now." Subsequent posts in December 2023 [NEWS-2, NEWS-1] confirmed the developer's attention had fully shifted to a new project — Pixel Piracy Online (PPO), a separate game with its own Steam page, crowdfunding campaign, and active development. These posts were published on the Pixel Piracy store page but are entirely about PPO, not about any planned updates to Pixel Piracy itself. There have been no Pixel Piracy updates or developer communications since December 2023. Both DLCs are released, no unreleased DLC exists, and the developer's November 2023 statement effectively served as a farewell to active development. The December 2023 posts reinforce rather than contradict this — the developer moved on to a new game. The game is complete as of the developer's November 9, 2023 sign-off.
Evidence
Developer announced he is starting production on a new, separate game — Pixel Piracy Online — with its own Steam page and crowdfunding campaign. No mention of returning to Pixel Piracy.
