Dread Hunger is no longer available for purchase. The developer announced on November 13, 2023 that the game would be removed from sale on December 1, 2023, citing unsustainable server costs and severe ongoing DDoS attacks. Official game servers were shut down on January 1, 2024, as confirmed by both the shutdown announcement and a follow-up FAQ post on December 11, 2023. The store description and short description both prominently note that official server support ended January 1, 2024. A final feature patch was released on January 10, 2024, enabling players to host their own community servers — the developer's stated plan for keeping the game alive in the community's hands. The developer explicitly framed this as the end of official support, not a temporary pause, and no further communications have appeared since January 10, 2024. The game can still be played via community-hosted servers by those who already own it, but it cannot be purchased.
