Dungeon Defenders II is a free-to-play cooperative tower defense RPG that launched on June 20, 2017 and has been receiving consistent major content updates ever since. Chromatic Games has maintained a strong update cadence, shipping new heroes, maps, bosses, game modes, and seasonal content multiple times per year.
The most recent major update, "The Golden Crusade," launched on June 23, 2026 — less than two months before today's date. It introduced a brand-new hero (The Templar), two new maps including a new boss fight, new Elemental Rumble elements, new pets, new gear sets, and a new Defender Pass season. A bug-fix hotfix followed on July 14, 2026, confirming the developer is actively engaged with the game.
Before that, the "Fairy Tales Update" (December 9, 2025) added the Jester hero, Chaos 11 difficulty, a new map and boss, and a new Defender Pass. July 2025 brought the Cyborg hero via Galactic Guardians Pt. 2. November 2024 saw the major "Frostbound" update with the Frostweaver hero and the Elemental Rumble game mode. August 2024 delivered Seas of Dragonfall Pt. III. This pattern of four to five major content drops per year has been sustained consistently.
The game's recurring Defender Pass — a seasonal cosmetic progression system tied to each major update — is a structural element that drives ongoing content delivery. No developer statement has indicated development is winding down or concluding.
Chromatic Games announced a separate spin-off title, "Defenders of Etheria," in March 2025, and explicitly stated that its development team is separate from those working on other Dungeon Defenders titles. This has not disrupted DD2's update cadence, which has continued uninterrupted.
The game is actively receiving substantial content updates and there is no indication that this will stop in the near future.

Etheria is under attack! Build mighty defenses to freeze, burn and disintegrate your foes -- then grab a sword and jump into the action! Level up a team of heroes, deck them out in loot, and destroy the hordes by yourself or in four-player online co-op!
Wizards! Robots! Thieves! Recruit a cast of characters to join you on your quest to save Etheria. Each hero brings unique abilities and defenses to the battlefield. Swap between your heroes on the fly to use all of their tools -- even in combat!
Construct a deadly grid of laser beams. Drown your foes in quicksand. Build a wall of flamethrowers and watch the world burn, you sicko. A wide variety of defenses are at your disposal, and you'll need them all to protect the Eternia Crystals from the Old Ones' army.
Leap into battle and get your hands dirty! Grab a sword, a bow or a laser shotgun to blast through hordes of enemies. As you play, you'll find loot and Shards to equip and customize your heroes with. Just beware of the goblin blood. As much as you scrub, the smell never goes away.

Create a Team of Heroes
