Evaluation

Epic Battle Fantasy 5 launched on November 30, 2018 and received one major post-launch content update: the Version 2 update, which shipped on February 15, 2020. This was a substantial addition that included a new biome, three new dungeons, 52 new enemies, new skills, new equips, new monster cards, new achievements, and new gameplay modes. The store description prominently highlights Version 2 as the game's defining expansion. Since Version 2 shipped, the developer (Matt Roszak) has shifted focus to other projects — most notably "Find Matt's Cats," a separate game that launched on March 16, 2026. A January 2026 post mentioned Matt drawing EBF-style assets "for practice" with no specific plans, and a March 2026 post highlighted community mods for EBF5 rather than any official developer-authored content. Matt's own words in that post confirm he has "been busy working on a new game" rather than EBF5 itself. The only DLC listed is the soundtrack, which was released at launch. No unreleased DLC exists on the store. The developer has not announced any upcoming content for EBF5, and there has been no official new content for the game since February 2020 — over six years ago. The game launched as a complete product and received one major expansion that is now fully shipped. EBF5 is complete.
Evidence
Developer states he has 'been busy working on a new game' (Find Matt's Cats) and highlights community mods for EBF5 rather than any official new content. No plans for official EBF5 content are announced.

About this game

Epic Battle Fantasy 5 is an over-the-top turn-based RPG adventure, full of video game references, juvenile dialogue, and anime fanservice (...and also strategic combat, monster catching, and tons of treasure hunting - if you're into any of those.) The massive Version 2 update adds new bosses, more dungeons, customizable challenge modes, collectable monster cards, and much more!

If you're new to the series, this is a good place to start, and if you've played the other games, there's plenty of new features for you to explore.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5 features...

  • Over 200 different enemies to fight, all with unique abilities and attack patterns.
  • Over 120 usable skills, and more equips than you can try out in a single playthrough.
  • Almost any enemy can be captured like a Pok*mon, and later summoned in battle. (including bosses!)
  • New mechanics also include weather conditions and a cooldown system. (MP is gone!)
  • Set up devastating combos with damage-amplifying status effects. (wet + thunder = massive damage!)
  • 30 hours of gameplay, plus lots of optional dungeons and challenges, which can easily double that.
  • Suitable for both casual and hardcore RPG players, and is safe for all ages, if offensive content is disabled.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5 does NOT feature...

  • Annoying random battles.
  • Limited save points.
  • Depressed protagonists.
  • Points of no return.
