Euro Truck Simulator 2 launched in October 2012 and has been in sustained, active development for nearly 14 years. SCS Software continues to release major game updates and new DLC at a steady pace with no signs of slowing. In 2026, the pace of development has been remarkable. The 1.59 update shipped on May 6, 2026, delivering a complete rework of the Benelux region (Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg). The 1.60 update followed on June 18, 2026, adding a new in-game Game Radio system with five curated stations, an Improved Material System for vehicle interiors, an Expanded Rest Mechanic, and a Job Details Widget. The 1.61 update entered open beta on September 3, 2026, bringing a Proximity Exploration map feature, a complete Livestock Trailer rework, and updates to the Schwarzmüller Trailer Pack — plus map infrastructure changes across multiple cities to prepare for the upcoming Coaches DLC. On the DLC front, five expansions are listed on the Steam store but not yet released: **Isle of Ireland**, **Heart of Russia**, **Iceland**, **Coaches**, and **Soul of Anatolia**. These are active development projects, not distant wishes. The Coaches DLC received a gameplay preview video on July 5, 2026, a detailed breakdown of vehicle ownership and job scheduling mechanics on August 21, 2026, and explicit map preparation work confirmed in the September 3, 2026 open beta post. The Isle of Ireland DLC had a full research trip documentary published on September 5, 2026. Soul of Anatolia was formally announced on April 15, 2026 with a trailer and store listing. SCS Software is also working on console ports of ETS2 and ATS for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, with their second developer progress update published on April 12, 2026. The most recent DLC to ship was the Holland Style Tuning Pack on June 30, 2026, and the most recent developer communication was the open beta announcement on September 3, 2026.
