Evaluation
EXAPUNKS launched into full release on October 22, 2018, after a brief Early Access period during which the developer added a bonus campaign and polished the game based on player feedback. The release post explicitly marked the transition from Early Access as a completed milestone.
The only major post-launch content signal is a July 5, 2022 news post announcing Last Call BBS — described as "the last game from Zachtronics" — which is an entirely separate game on Steam, not an update or expansion for EXAPUNKS. Notably, it includes a remastered version of HACK*MATCH (the minigame embedded in EXAPUNKS), but this is part of Last Call BBS, not new content added to EXAPUNKS itself.
Post-launch activity for EXAPUNKS has been limited to minor maintenance: a July 2022 crash fix and an October 2022 update that switched histograms to pull from a local file rather than a live server — a typical sign of winding down live backend services. There are no unreleased DLC listings, no roadmaps, no announcements of upcoming content, and no developer statements suggesting further updates are planned. The game shipped as a complete puzzle experience and has received no content expansions since its 1.0 release.
Evidence
Zachtronics announced Last Call BBS as 'the last game from Zachtronics,' a separate standalone title. This signals the studio has concluded its run as a developer, with no further games or expansions planned — including for EXAPUNKS.
EXAPUNKS officially left Early Access on October 22, 2018, with the developer marking it as a full release after adding a bonus campaign and incorporating player feedback.
