Field of Glory: Empires released on July 11, 2019 and has received a steady stream of updates over the years. Early post-launch work included substantial feature patches such as the Triumph Update (September 26, 2019) and a major Diplomacy system overhaul (released February 24, 2020). A paid DLC, Persia 550–330 BCE, shipped on May 21, 2020. The studio's focus then shifted toward the successor title, Field of Glory: Kingdoms, which launched on June 4, 2024.
Then, on September 16, 2025, the developer made a notable announcement: a final, large-scale patch for Empires is being prepared. According to the post, this update will bring dozens of bug fixes, sweeping balance changes across nearly every aspect of the game, and quality-of-life improvements including the popular Building Browser feature from Kingdoms. Beta sign-ups were opened, and the developer indicated that an intensive testing phase would be announced "later this summer" of 2025.
As of June 26, 2026, that follow-up communication has not arrived. The patch has not been released, no beta testing update has been posted, and the developer has gone silent on the topic for more than nine months. While the patch was explicitly announced and is clearly still pending, the extended silence since the September 2025 post makes it unclear whether development is proceeding on schedule or has stalled. Anyone waiting for this final update should be aware that its release timeline is currently unknown.

Many civilizations have collapsed for not having seen in time the signs of impending crisis. The older your empire, the more challenges will lurk in the shadows. Just expanding your borders without carefully shaping your form of government and culture won’t be the wisest of strategies.
Manage your Empire on a scale that fits you: adjust all the details of an important region, form provinces to oversee your growing realm.
Construct buildings to enhance your army, the life of your citizens, and the economy. Establish and grow a trade network of goods and resources.
The battle system is not just about who brings the larger force. Army composition and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of you and your enemy are decisive, so is choosing wisely the battlefield and the general to lead your troops.
And, if you want even more direct control, Field of Glory: Empires lets you export and load your battles into Field of Glory II and then load the results back into Field of Glory: Empires!
War is decided not just by battles though, but also clever manoeuvres. Simultaneous (WEGO) turn resolution means thinking ahead to intercept – or to escape! – enemy armies will be essential. Field of Glory: Empires offers a living world where every decision has an impact on every actor.
And once you think you are ready to be challenged, play against real opponents in one of the largest asynchronous multiplayer system ever created.
