First Dwarf entered Early Access on June 19, 2024 and remains actively in development with a remarkable update cadence. As of the July 2026 anniversary note in Update #45, the developer confirmed the game had received 45 updates across two years — averaging nearly two updates per month throughout its Early Access life. Major content continues to ship regularly. Recent highlights include Update #44 (June 25, 2026), which added a second mech for co-op players — described by the developer as a significant overhaul touching co-op logic, UI, equipment, and save systems — followed by Update #45 (July 7, 2026) introducing Mana Transmitters, and Update #46 (July 22, 2026) with further co-op improvements and new character skills. The developer's January 2026 post laid out a detailed roadmap for the year covering new structures, settler job systems, new NPCs and quests, airship improvements, skill resetting, and fast travel. A May 2026 post explicitly confirmed active work on "the final chapter on Astramos Island" — the arch-enemy storyline — which has not yet shipped. There is no indication of an impending 1.0 release. The Astramos Island chapter represents a major outstanding story commitment, and multiple features from the 2026 roadmap are still in progress. Development is highly active with no sign of slowing.
