FlowState

FlowState

Early access since Feb 2020

This simulator is a true FPV Drone Racing simulator. The goal is to make it look and feel as similar to a standard racing drone as possible. As such, the goal is not to make the most HD/GoPro-esque visuals. Instead the focus is on simulating what pilots see through the goggles, static and all!

Evaluation

FlowState is an FPV drone racing simulator that has been available in Early Access on Steam since February 28, 2020 — more than six years ago. The store description outlines the developer's simulation philosophy and design goals, but provides no information about the current state of development, upcoming features, or a timeline for a full 1.0 release. There are no developer news posts, patch notes, roadmaps, or announcements available. The developer notes the project is open source and hosted on GitHub, which may mean some development activity exists outside Steam, but no official communications through Steam channels are present. With over six years in Early Access and no visible developer updates, it is unclear whether this project is still being actively developed toward a full release.

About this game

Simulator Philosophy
This simulator is a true FPV Drone Racing simulator. The goal is to make it look and feel as similar to a standard racing drone as possible. As such, the goal is not to make the most HD/GoPro-esque visuals. Instead the focus is on simulating what pilots see through the goggles, static and all! This sim is also open source! So if you would like to contribute find us on github. Here are some of the founding principles players' and contributors' consideration.

- Flight feel is #1 priority
- This means lowest (realistic) possible input latency
- Use as a practice tool
- Lap times should be similar for most pilots/setups/tracks
- Editable maps with commonly used track elements
- Realistic video static/interference like what you'd see in an actual FPV race
- Competitive
- The sim does not provide significant advantages to those with high end gaming rigs
- The "sim quads" could be flown "against" real quads, and yield a fair competition
- Field friendly (works on recent lower end laptops)
- Usable with or without internet connection
