For Mother Matron is a free atmospheric horror visual novel that launched on Steam on October 17, 2022. The developer, Velvetique Games, shipped several patches in the weeks after launch to fix bugs and polish the experience. After a period of quiet (during which the developer attempted but ultimately scrapped plans for additional chapters), a major Anniversary Update was announced on October 22, 2025 and released on November 17, 2025. This update brought substantial improvements: new lore content via Lizzy's Journal, difficulty options, new music, new scenes, visual and script revisions, and numerous quality-of-life and accessibility improvements. A follow-up bug-fix patch (2.51) shipped on December 2, 2025. Critically, the developer's November 17, 2025 post explicitly states that "further development on For Mother Matron will hit the back burner" because they are now focused on developing For Mother Matron 2 (and a second unannounced project). This is a clear statement that content development for the original game is effectively concluded. The December 2, 2025 patch was a minor bug fix following the Anniversary Update, not new content — making it the last maintenance touch on an otherwise complete package.

Periodically, the Mother Matron selects residents to become Surveyors, tasked with exploring the dark unknown tunnels that lie underground to find the key to a better future for the collective. The odds of survival are slim to none. It is an honor and a death sentence. One day, Lizzy finds herself on the draft...

Using your wits and quick thinking, you must guide Lizzy through the dangers beneath. Will you survive? Will you find Paradise? Or will you be lost to the dark forever?
