Evaluation
Half-Life: Blue Shift is a standalone expansion to Half-Life originally released by Gearbox Software in June 2001. It shipped as a complete, self-contained story — the security guard Barney Calhoun's perspective on the Black Mesa incident — with no post-launch content ever planned or delivered beyond the original package. Since its release, Valve has issued periodic maintenance and compatibility updates: a major technical overhaul in July 2013 added SteamPipe support, Mac and Linux compatibility, and cloud saves, and a further update in October 2019 brought in improvements via shared Half-Life engine resources. These are purely technical upkeep patches, not new game content. The last developer communication was on October 8, 2019. No new content has ever been announced, no DLC exists, and the store description makes no mention of planned additions. This is a finished, 25-year-old game that receives occasional engine maintenance from Valve.
