Evaluation

ILLWILL is a solo-developed old-school first-person shooter that launched on April 13, 2023. Since release, the developer has continued to patch and improve the game with feature updates roughly every few months through September 10, 2025 — the most recent official communication. These updates have added new gameplay mechanics (notably a dash system in December 2024), balance adjustments, visual improvements, and quality-of-life options. The game has no unreleased DLC listed on the store, no announced future content or roadmap, and no developer statements indicating more expansions or major updates are planned. The update history shows a developer who has been engaged in refining and polishing the existing product rather than building toward new content releases. The September 10, 2025 patch (1.11) is the last known communication, and the nature of its changes — enemy balancing, menu translation, minor visual tweaks — reads as maintenance and polish rather than a stepping stone toward new content. There is no ongoing update cadence that would suggest additional major content is forthcoming, and the developer has not signaled any future plans. The game appears to have shipped as a complete product and has since received ongoing maintenance. The most recent patch on September 10, 2025 represents the likely endpoint of active development work.
Evidence
Update 1.10 added dash mechanics as a major gameplay addition, alongside a cheat menu and cosmetic weapon improvements.

About this game

Imagine the mix of Doom, Quake, Blood, Serious Sam with some bits of madness, all put into the great Unreal Engine 4.
The name of this bloody cocktail is ILLWILL.

"ILLWILL is a wonderfully squelchy old school first person shooter with big guns and monsters that explode into chunks of meat and blood when you blast them.
Drawing inspiration from DOOM, Quake, Blood and Serious Sam, ILLWILL is a very stylish and comedically brutal old school boomer shooter. It seems that you’re essentially a one-man-army that must blast their way through hordes of monsters that are up to no good."

STORY

ILLWILL has no plot in the usual sense. However, each location in the game has its own atmosphere and conveys the story through the environment. The game begins in a closed room, according to the state of which it can be understood that the main hero spent a lot of time inside of it. There are many details in ILLWILL that refer to emotions such as sadness or feelings of loneliness. The game has strong contrasts from gloomy corridors full of hopelessness to large and bright levels inspired by art of Salvador Dali. We can say that ILLWILL is the life experience of the author, both visually imaginative and gameplay experience, down to specific emotions.
