Indie Pogo launched on July 10, 2018 and has received a steady stream of updates over the years, including three major content updates: the Heavy Metal overhaul (May 2, 2019), which added a new fighter, two new stages, new game modes, and overhauled fighter movesets; the Yolk and Kick update (March 1, 2020), which added two new fighters, a new stage, and leaderboards; and the Meat Boy update (October 22, 2021), which finally delivered the fighter announced in December 2020 along with a new stage and arcade content. The game also received nine DLC cosmetic items, all of which have been released — the most recent being Retro CommanderVideo on October 21, 2021. A December 2020 announcement (NEWS-3) outlined several planned future fighters beyond Meat Boy, specifically naming Octodad, Gunvolt, Dust, and a fighter from Awesomenauts for the Nintendo Switch version. However, Meat Boy was the last major content release on October 22, 2021, and the last developer communication of any kind was the balance patch on January 4, 2022. None of the additional fighters named in the December 2020 announcement appear to have shipped, and the developer has posted nothing since January 4, 2022. With no developer communication since January 4, 2022 — over four years ago — and none of the subsequently promised fighters appearing to have arrived, the announced content plans appear to have quietly lapsed. The pattern of major updates roughly every 6–12 months has clearly broken down, and the silence far exceeds any reasonable continuation of that cadence. The developer has not formally announced the end of development, but the extended silence combined with undelivered promises suggests the game has effectively reached the end of its active update cycle. The January 4, 2022 balance patch is the last known developer activity.
