Journey of Life launched out of Early Access on February 1, 2021, with the developer promising continued bi-weekly content updates. Through 2021, the studio (a two-person team) delivered a series of content and feature patches, adding new crafting stations, building parts, farming, multiplayer improvements, and quality-of-life changes.
In October 2021 (NEWS-2), the lead developer posted a candid message explaining that game sales were no longer covering costs, the team had accumulated debt, and development might have to wind down. He noted they would try to continue working on the game in whatever capacity they could, but the financial situation was precarious.
In April 2022 (NEWS-1), the developer returned with a more hopeful update: both team members had found side jobs to cover living expenses and were ready to resume work on the project. They pushed a multiplayer fix patch on April 22, 2022 (NEWS-4) and solicited community feedback on priorities on April 25, 2022 (NEWS-3). That was the last communication from the studio.
Since April 25, 2022, there have been no developer posts, patches, announcements, or updates of any kind. The studio had previously stated they planned to post updates "once every few months," but more than four years have passed with total silence. The game's store page still describes it as a project developed "so far" with certain features — language that suggests ongoing work — but no further development has materialized publicly. No formal announcement of the game's completion or abandonment has been made.
