Kingdom Builders entered Steam Early Access on June 24, 2021. The developer, ebb & flow games, spent the months following launch attempting to secure publisher funding to support a full 1.0 release. On January 7, 2022, the developer posted a formal announcement stating that all funding efforts had failed and that the team could no longer be paid — and as a result, development was being shut down permanently. They also stated their intention to ask Steam to remove the game from sale to prevent further purchases of an abandoned product. The game's store listing shows it is no longer purchasable, which aligns with that stated intent. However, the game is still technically listed on Steam with its Early Access flag intact, meaning it has never graduated to a full release. The game was abandoned mid-development with its Early Access promises unfulfilled.
